    The Journal of the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet invites Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academics and health practitioners and those with expertise in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health to submit an expression of interest to become an Editorial Board member for this growing publication. We are seeking EOIs for an Editor and numerous Associate Editors. The Editor and Associate Editors ensure the accuracy, culturally safety, academic integrity and rigour of the articles published by the journal. 

    This  Journal has been published online since 2020. In that time, it has received over 54,000 downloads, in 153 countries and 1,000 institutions around the world. We seek to publish work which highlights best-practice in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, including but not limited to, empirical research on successful programs for preventing or reducing chronic health conditions among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, theoretical frameworks and models of culturally safe care, systematic and scoping reviews on relevant health topics including chronic health conditions,  social emotional wellbeing, and environmental health, commentaries, and book reviews.

    The Editor Role:

    The Editor is expected to:

    Oversee the quality, accuracy, cultural safety and academic integrity of the journal. The Editor may also suggest Special Section or Special Issues for the journal and identify guest Editors.

    Guide the growth of the journal including progression towards indexation on Scopus

    Promote and champion the journal through their professional networks

    Assess relevance of journal submissions, seek and assign peer reviewers and decide on submission outcomes (Accept, Accept with Revisions, Reject).

    Assessment of articles submitted for publication in the journal for quality and alignment with the journal scope

    Associate Editor Role:

    Associate editors support the Editor in duties including:

    Seeking appropriate peer reviewers and sending invites for review including flagging potential conflicts of interest

    Monitoring the progress of reviews and sending reminders if necessary

    Evaluating peer reviews and deciding on the submission outcome (Accept, Accept with Revisions, Reject)

    Suggest ideas for Special Section or Special Issues for the journal

    Note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander early career researchers and/or health practitioners are strongly encouraged to apply for Associate Editor positions. No prior editorial experience is necessary and you will receive mentorship in editorial ship from the current Editor, and Director of the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who represent diverse identities including gender, sexuality and ability are encouraged to apply.

    Time commitment:

    The journal publishes 2 issues per calendar year. Associate Editors may be assigned up to 5 articles per year

    The Editor is expected to oversee the smooth flow of journal submissions from receiving submissions through the journal management software, assigning submissions to Associate Editors (if necessary), sending invitations for peer reviewers, making decisions on article suitability and decisions on publishing.

    The Editorial team is expected to attend 1 x yearly only journal meeting

    Editorial Board members will be supported by a the Director of the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet who will provide assistance with author and reviewer queries. All members will received training on the online journal management system supported through Elsevier publishing.

    This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet’s ongoing mission to facilitate access to information that supports those working in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health sector.
